My grandfather “Big Mark” went to work in the petrochemical industry at Goodyear 100 years ago, and when my dad joined Enjay Chemical (now ExxonMobil) 30 years later, he said, “John, in this business, it’s just one damn thing after another.” He was passing on his wisdom (which I received in turn when I joined DuPont 35 years after that) about the unique nature of our industry. We employ many processes and principles that don’t make sense in other sectors, many of which stem from the fact that we work in the most dangerous manufacturing industry in the world. Our operating intensity is significantly higher because it has to be. Our lives and livelihoods depend on it.
We apply this principle in AllClear’s design. To be the most effective in protecting human lives, we are uncompromising in how we deliver the user experience to our customers because the hazards in our industry are unique. That is what sets AllClear apart from the alternatives. To explain, I recently had a chat with Shaun Castillo, the President of Preferred Technologies, a leading systems integrator (and podcast host) in Houston. We spent some time discussing why there are consequences to using a system that is not designed to meet the rigorous requirements of our emergencies.
